Since I moved here a few years ago, Bearwood has been quietly getting all cool, with more bars and coffee shops sneaking in to put the local Costa to shame. In fact, Bearwood is home to one of my very favourite cafes, TamuCafe.
Run a by a husband and wife team, Tamu has recently moved to a new, much bigger space on Bearwood’s high street, but is still serving up the same amazing food that it always has.
Tamu offers possibly the warmest welcome possible. Owner Zee has that magic touch of making all her customers feel like friends, and you always get the impression that she’s delighted that you and not somebody else has popped in for coffee.
I think I’ve tried most of the menu at some point or another, but my favourite remains the Sweetcorn Fritters. Drizzled with syrup and topped with a pile of avocado, poached egg and fried halloumi, this dish is serious comfort food and I never get tired of eating it.
The menu is full of breakfast and brunch classics with a twist. Everything you order here is colourful and inviting, and I haven’t tried a single dish that wasn’t bloody delicious, whether it’s Eggs Royale or the Veggie Burger.
Do yourself a favour and take yourself out for brunch at Tamu. You’ll leave full of delicious, nutritious food and nowhere else will hit the spot for brunch in quite the same way again.
