Dedicated carnivore? Like the idea of your dinner being served by a man with a sword? Then you’ll be delighted to know that Brazilian bar and grill, Fazenda, has landed just off Colmore Row. I was invited to join co-founder Tomas at the Captain’s Table to try it out.
The concept is simple. You part with your cash (£21.50 for lunch, £32.50 for dinner) and get given a red and green card. But before the card comes into play, you get to raid the salad bar.
Salad bar is not a big enough term to describe this. The bar is huge, with piles of fresh salad, pasta, meats, sushi, cheese and much more. There is so much choice, and it would be easy to fill up just on this. Try and restrain yourself though, as the best is to come. For allergy sufferers, you’ll be pleased to find that the salad bar is incredibly clearly labelled, making it very easy to work out what you can eat if you have any dietary requirements.
Back at the Captain’s Table (via a lustful gaze into the gorgeous cellar of special wines), we tried a selection of the vegetarian and fish options. It might seem strange for a restaurant so built on meat, but the non-meat options are fantastic too. My highlights were the blue cheese risotto and a beetroot gnocchi.
But onto the main event. The concept is simple. Waiters patrol the restaurant with swords of swizzling meat. If you want to try it, you leave your card with the green side facing up. If you want a break, flip the card to red.
If you want to try something in particular, or like your meat cooked a particular way, just let the waiters know, and they’ll either prioritise certain options in the kitchen, or make sure to visit you with meat cooked exactly how you like it.
The meat was all unbelievably succulent and flavoursome, with standouts being the lamb and the beef skirt. Service was attentive and if you leave anything other than full to the brim and very happy, you’ve gone very wrong somewhere.
If you want something a bit special, with high-end service and incredible food, you can’t go wrong with Fazenda.
I was a guest of Fazenda and Rewired PR. All food and drinks were complementary for the purpose of honest review. All words, images and options are honest and my own.
