Friday Round Up

Friday Round Up

1. Rogue. 2. Kaylee cosplay. 3. Hipster lunch break. 4. Pinup polka dots.

Being back in an office, at least some of the time, is really suiting me. I’m making friends, learning things and generally having a good time. Turns out I don’t hate offices, I just badly run ones, or ones without the wrong people in. Who knew?

I’ve finally been brave enough to ditch the coat this week, and swap over to the mac. So far, no freezing, which is always nice. Friday night was an excellent catch-up night with some old work friends. It’s lovely to go back sometimes and see everyone. Too much gin was consumed and much catching up was done. I spent part of the weekend with my mum, on our usual routine of food and shopping. We’re nothing if not classy, so our food choice was giant burgers at Ed’s Diner. There’s been a lot of talk this week in Brum about the evils of chains, but honestly, they have their place. A quick, reasonably priced bite between shops is fine. I love the independent scene in Birmingham, and try to choose them where I can, especially for coffee. But it’s just not realistic to do that all the time. What do you think?

The rest of the week has beer terraces, excellent mashed potato, lots of coffee and good times. Perfect.

Day 57: Gelato from Joe Delucci’s. Day 58: Amazing Frazzles Scotch Egg from Pietanic. Day 59: Enchiladas for dinner! Day 60: Love this cover. Day 61: Logo mug. Day 62: Cocktails at Rose Villa Tavern. Day 63: New pop figure – materialising TARDIS

I have been no good at this healthy eating business this week. The lovely Joe Delucci’s sent me a couple of their gelato flavours to try. You can read my thoughts here, but spoiler alert, they didn’t last long. On Saturday, David and I headed over to the Sunflower Lounge for lunch. The fabulous Pietanic are currently in residence in their kitchen, serving up gourmet pies and a range of sides. We tried the Frazzles Scotch Egg, which sounds odd but may be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. It was beautifully cooked. David and I were both blown away by it. The pies, with mash and gravy, were incredible too, of course.

Wednesday night was the next edition of Brumderland’s and Bitters and Twisted Seven Deadly Sins events. This week’s theme was Gluttony, hosted by the Rose Villa Tavern. There’ll be a full post up in a few days, but we had a lot of fun. Much vodka was drunk.

Day 50: Life’s important questions. Day 51: Weekend breakfast. Day 52: Sunday brunch. Day 53: Cake and a cuppa. 54. Rereading an old favourite. Day 55: Gelato to try! Day 56: Trying on new shoes with my superhero socks!

The theme of last week seems to have been avocados. I spent a lot of time eating them and I have no regrets. Mum came up on Sunday and we had a walk into Harborne where we had an excellent brunch at The Plough. We both went for smoked salmon, scrambled egg and avocado on sourdough toast and it was insanely delicious. All my favourite things on toast.

Final preparations are being made for MCM Birmingham next month. I needed some flat shoes to wear with Pin-Up Rogue as the heels, while beautiful, are impossible to walk in. I’ll just slip the heels on for photos and can walk around in the little yellow flats you can see above. I’m excited to take the new Rogue version to a convention. David’s got Jedi Gambit to bring out, so we’re both excited for new cosplays.

I had a rather nice delivery from Joe Delucci’s. I’ve got a couple of flavours of their gelato to try out, so I sense gelato eating for the weekend.
